The Wonder of God in our Children

Sometimes I miss my children. Or better said, sometimes I miss out on the wonder of my children.

Sometimes, I get so busy being their mom, that I forget to enjoy them. I focus so intently on the task at hand {meal prep, homeschooling lessons, dishes, playing referee to fights, grocery shopping, etc., etc., etc.} that I overlook the sweetness of their little inquisitive lives. Can anyone else relate?

Well, today, I caught myself doing just that...and I did something about it. After a few hours on in-house homeschooling, I scratched my "to-do" list for the afternoon and took the girls out for some outdoor fun and education!
 Learning about sea life.

To everyone's amazement, this sting ray followed Catelyn everywhere. Even the zoo worker was in disbelief.

It was so refreshing. I just smiled and enjoyed watching their curiosity and eagerness bubble over into giggles and questions and then more giggles. I watched as two young sisters held hands and encouraged one another to learn new things and experience even more of the wonder of God's creation.
I watched as they stood in awe of God's work, and it caused me to be awestruck, as well. Awestruck at the beauty and simplicity of a child's heart. That in the same way my heart is melting at their eagerness and genuine fascination with God's world, He feels the same about me when I, too, am astounded at the work of His hands. It brings joy to His heart.

 Even Ella's wish of riding on a school bus came to fruition as a lone bus driver waiting for his group of students allowed us to come inside and learn all about the bus! Ella was overjoyed, and Catelyn got to operate many of the cool features.

I'm truly thankful for today. It was a wonderful Mommy & Daughters day. But even more so, it was a good-for-the-soul day.

O Lord, I give thanks to You, for my girls are fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well. {from Psalm 139:14}

*Have you found yourself missing out on your children lately? Perhaps they aren't young children like mine; maybe they're teenagers or even adults. In any case, may I encourage you to do the same; to scratch your plans and simply enjoy your child today? I am pretty sure you won't regret it.*
