Season of Quiet

Each of us goes through different seasons in life. Some easy. Some difficult. Some full of joy. Some soaked in heartache. Sometimes a season last a long time. Sometimes it is brief.

For me, I am in a season of quiet. A season of observing; of learning and experiencing.
More listening and less talking. {Hence this blog being filled more with photos than words lately.}

"A time to be silent and a time to speak." Ecclesiastes 3:7

My ears and eyes are open wide to Jesus. Taking in the messy beautiful of everyday life. Seeing the grace in the grand and the mundane. Taking time to be less of the story-teller, and spending more time paying closer attention to the original Story-teller.

"Listen, O My people, to My instruction; incline your ears to the words of My mouth." Psalm 78:1

I type as though I made the decision to keep quiet. The truth is, over the past half year, when I sit down to type my mind goes blank. Nothing. I have more than enough that I would like to share, but as soon as I try to articulate it, I can't. The words just don't seem to be enough. So I close my computer.

I enjoy writing. I delight in sharing what the Lord is teaching me. So the feeling of being silenced felt frustrating at first. Confusing, even. However, as time continued to pass, I began to joyfully embrace this season. This sitting at Jesus'feet. Listening.

This is what my heart needs. What it longs for. More of Him and less of me. More of His words and less of mine.

"He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. So this joy of mine has been made full. He must increase, but I must decrease." John 3:29-30

Lest you get the idea that it has been only peaceful tranquility, this sitting at Jesus' feet, it has not. So far it's been a beautiful blend of gladness, busyness, normalcy, and sorrow. It's life. But life lived alongside my Savior. And there's no place I'd rather be.

As with the dear saints of old, there were seasons in their lives that seemed spectacularly quiet; that left them wondering what God was doing in their life. Yet, later on seeing the surprising fruit that was born from the quiet. I, too, though unaware now, am looking forward to whatever God is preparing me for as I spend this time with Him in obscurity.

So, if there continues to be a muted season on this blog, you can simply picture in your mind's eye me taking in all that God is graciously bestowing upon me. Both the peaceful and the hard. The joys and the hurt. And allowing Him to mold me with it.

And when the Lord deems it time, I will be back here overflowing my thoughts and musings onto this page as my heart will be fit to burst of all the things to praise Him for! My cup keeps on filling up.

My sweet Jesus, thank You for your faithfulness to speak to me. To quiet my lips for a time, so that I can hear and enjoy You more fully. Have Your way with this time. May I then be found singing and praising You loudly when it is done. Amen.

Are you in a season of quiet right now? Are you embracing it, or feeling frustrated and confused? May I encourage you to press into the One who is faithfully leading you through the valley of silence. Do not waste this time. Sit. Listen. And soak it in.
