Her eyes closed. Her voice beautifully sounding
forth through the warmly candle-lit room. My own heart and voice in unison with
hers as our whole family sings, “Christ is the Lord! O praise His name forever!”
It’s Christmas time.
I love this time of year. It is uniquely bursting of joy,
love, and anticipation. The wonder of our Savior richly satiating our hearts. Our family enjoys setting aside the month of December to bring special honor and praise to our King; to fill our minds and hearts
with adoration and glory of God. To rejoice.
“Behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be
for all the people.” Luke 2:10
As a family, we seek to be creative in our worship during
the Advent season. Pursuing that which stirs our affections for, and draws our
attention to our Savior. To laugh and love as we remember what God has done for us in Christ.
“Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to
Him.” Revelation 19:7
Each day we gather together to spur one another on in our
pursuit of Jesus; to mutually excite love for Him.
“Let us consider how to stir
up one another to love and good works.” Hebrews 10:24
During this month, we focus our family reading time to the
prophesies of the Promised One, and the fulfillment thereof in Christ. Deepening our trust in God's faithfulness to His Word.
“For a
child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will
rest on His shoulders; and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty
God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
With joyful hearts, we lift our voices each evening in song to
honor our King; filling the night air with praises to honor to His Name as we sit
around our lighted tree.
“Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name; make
known His deeds among the peoples. Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; speak of
all His wonders. Glory in His holy name; let the heart of those who seek the
Lord be glad.” 1 Chronicles 16:8-10
Each morning, we open an envelope inviting us
to either display the love of Christ to another or to do something that directs
our attention to His glory that day. This arouses such joy in our children's hearts...and ours!
“Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love
one another” 1 John 4:11
Our kids LOVE this time of year as well – and this makes our hearts
glad. They genuinely look forward to each day. We simply, and intentionally, put all the focus on Christ, and not on stuff. Our Christmas celebration has
very little to do with presents, and MUCH to do with Jesus – our true treasure!
Of course, there are plenty of gifts under our tree on Christmas morning, but
to our delight, that is not the highlight of the day - Jesus is!
With eyes still shut, my youngest sings out to her King, “His
power and glory evermore proclaim!” My soul is stirred with wonder at greatness of our God.
For He has ordained praise from one as young as this. For even the rocks would
cry out if we had not {Luke 19:40}. Yes, Lord, You are most worthy! All of creation sings of Your glory!
Glory to God in the
highest!
