Living here has given us a stunning perspective on life. Wealth vs. poverty. Luxury vs. necessity. Ignorance vs. reality. To think that a small drink at a coffee shop in America would equate to two days wages for our dear house helper…I don’t even have words. To realize that the bottle of syrup that we just bought to lavish on our pancakes for breakfast this morning is worth 4 days pay for her…that hurts.
How to reconcile these things in our minds and our hearts is still yet to be completed. But an excellent start is allowing the truth and purity of God’s Word to penetrate our hearts and lead us on... “Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope of the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.” 1 Timothy 6:17-19.
