Barefoot. Loose strands of curls
blowing in the breeze. The colored pencil being held upright between her little
fingers.
It takes my breath away.
Each of us has been made glorious.
Given an imprint of glory. Inviting us to look deeper to discover and enjoy the
Glory behind it all.
“Let Us make man in Our image,
according to Our likeness…God created man in His own image, in the image of God
He created him; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:26,27
God made us in His image. We share some of His
characteristics. Just as a child shares some of his or her parent’s attributes.
So it is true with us and God…our Creator and Father.
Today, as I watch my daughter, I am
mesmerized by this image-bearing. As she is lying on the patio with her pencils
and paper, she is wholly unaware of how she is setting my heart ablaze with
worship and adoration of our God.
There is something so calming about
watching her create. Imagination flowing free. Love and beauty being carefully
stroked across a blank canvas. She is a creator. An artist.
This young girl is reflecting the
creator and artist that she was made after. She is bringing Him glory without
even realizing it. Her very life is a testimony to His greatness. Your life is a testimony to His
greatness and glory whether you recognize Him as Creator or not. It is who you
and I are – image bearers.
As I watch her feet dangle in the air as she lies on her tummy, I count her sweet toes that were hand-crafted by God. As her red curls lightly fall in her face, I remember that God has counted each and every strand of hair on her head. With each masterpiece that she draws upon those pages, she is declaring that she is made in the image of an all-powerful, unparalleled, altogether glorious Maker. One whose majestic imprint is found within every one of us.
Wow.
“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is
Your name in all the earth, who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens!
When I look at Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars,
which You have set in place, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son
of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than the
heavenly beings, and crowned him with glory and honor! O Lord, our Lord, how
majestic is Your name in all the earth!” Psalm 8:1,3-5,9
Take a moment today and enjoy God
through one another. Remembering that each of us has been fearfully and
wonderfully made in the image of our God. Oh, let us seek to magnify His beauty
and glory all the more as we live our lives with each day that He's given us.
